You’re nearly there with your content and now you’d like a pair of super-sharp proofreading eyes to spot those hard-to-see typos…

No worries! I provide editing and proofreading services to authors, businesses, institutions and tertiary students for a range of written products, from short stories to website content and everything in between. I have experience editing in accordance with Australian, British and American English spelling and grammar rules. Most clients like me to do all editorial changes electronically using the track changes and comments functions in Microsoft Word, but I can also work with Adobe Creative Cloud files.

You’re looking for a good communicator who’s got the knack for writing clear content for print, social media and the web…

You’ve come to the right place. I’ve been writing ever since I can remember, and it’s what I love and do best. The written word is everything to me, which is why I’m currently writing a doctoral thesis in English literature. I’ve written content for every channel you can think of – internal and external communications, web pages, intranet pages, brochures, social media, academic papers and much more. If you’ve got something to say, I can help you put it into the right words.

You get that a good social media content plan shouldn’t rely on the “hard sell” but you’re not sure how to get the most out of your channels…

One of the things I’m really passionate about is digital communications, particularly social media. With social media, you can reach huge numbers of people very quickly. But how do you stand out from the rest? Creativity is a huge part of it and so is well-prepared messaging. This is what I love to do and I learned a lot working on the ‘Visit Australian Parliament House’ social media channels for the Department of Parliamentary Services. If you need a hand creating attractive, imaginative content for your social media accounts, I’d be glad to help.

You know your clients and readers want the clearest possible information from you, but you’re so used to writing in the ‘company way’…

During my career, I spent several years in government, both here in Australia and in the UK. Often I was baffled and frustrated by the way government teams write and speak, both to each other and to the public. Now, I make a point of spreading the good word about the merits of plain English.

If you have content that is full of jargon and complex language, I can rewrite it in plain English. Writing in plain English means using a clear style and avoiding complex language. Writing in plain English is not simply ‘dumbing down’ language for the sake of it. It’s about having a meaningful conversation with your audience. It’s about helping your readers and customers to understand, quickly, the important things you are trying to tell them by using everyday language.

You’ve got literally hours of audio to transcribe and you don’t have the time to crack on it with it…

Plenty of patience and an attention to detail are paramount when it comes to transcribing. You and your colleagues won’t always have the time to transcribe, word-for-word, those important roundtable discussions, interviews and so on. Let me help you!

I have lots of experience transcribing English language audio and audio-visual material covering arts, business, technology and social sciences topics. I can do both standard transcription and verbatim (with each ‘umm’ and every stutter included). Feel free to send your audio my way for a quote. Just let me know what you need done.
